Dental fillings are used to repair minor damage or decay on teeth. Most often, one is provided when a tooth has developed a cavity, which refers to a small hole or void on a tooth’s outer surface. Left untreated, they can evolve into more serious problems. This is because food particles and harmful oral bacteria can use cavities to access the inner areas of teeth and cause serious damage or infections. Fortunately, dental fillings are very effective in restoring teeth that have become damaged by cavities.
At SmileWorld Dental, we take great pride in providing patients with tooth-colored fillings that look remarkably natural and function extremely well. Our tooth-colored fillings, which are also sometimes referred to as composite fillings, consist of a combination of quartz and glass fillers that are housed inside of a resin medium.
This type of dental filling is highly resistant to fractures, and it will work to add to the tooth’s overall strength and durability. With their natural color, it is almost impossible to visibly identify a tooth that has been treated with a composite filling.
The first step when applying a tooth-colored filling is to remove any visible decay and existing filling material that is present inside the tooth. Once the tooth is clean, the dentist will carefully apply the composite substance, sealing off any openings that exist on the tooth’s outer surface. Using a dental curing light, the filling material will be hardened until it reaches a natural consistency. The substance will then be shaped and polished in order to provide the tooth with a natural appearance. Afterwards, the patient will be able to continue with their brushing and flossing practices as normal.
